Haslemere Thespians - The Kings Speech (Proof V2).png

Spring 2024

The King's Speech

The story of how King George VI overcame his fear of public speaking through the help of Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue was made into a highly successful film and we are delighted to present the original version as written for the stage.

As the clouds of war gather over Europe, Britain itself is in turmoil with the death of one King followed by the unprecedented abdication of the next only months later. Unwillingly thrust into the limelight, the shy and reserved Duke of York faces the daunting prospect of becoming a wartime King. But how can a man who
can barely speak provide the leadership his country so
desperately needs?

Director: Richard Weller

Performances will all be at 7:30 pm on
Thursday 16, Friday 17 and Saturday 18 May
at Haslemere Hall.

The Next Generation 2024

Matilda JR.

Matilda JR is the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly and in creating her own stories. Things are no better at school, where Matilda must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall’s motto: “Bambinatum est Magitum,” or “Children are Maggots.” She finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey, who, though well-intentioned, is shy and fragile. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda’s bravery teaches Miss Honey and her classmates an important lesson -- that even though life can be hard, “nobody but me is gonna change my story” so “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.”

Director: Sally Waghorn

Autumn 2024

The Shakespeare Revue

Our October production is going to be something a little bit different. “The Shakespeare Revue” is an evening of songs and sketches based around the Bard and his plays. It is a delightful, funny collection written by some very talented people including Victoria Wood, Stephen Fry and Peter Cook and does not need a huge knowledge of Shakespeare to be enjoyed.

It will also see the return of our ever-popular supper evening format with evening performances including dinner on Friday 4th and Sat 5th October and a matinee with afternoon tea on the 5th.
