The Welkin: Audition Details

We can now confirm further details for our October production “The Welkin” by Lucy Kirkwood as provided by the Director, Richard Weller:

“Following a Presentation and part Read Through on Monday 22 June, Auditions will be held on Wednesday 24 June. Both events will commence at 7.30pm at The Shottermill Club, 2 Liphook Rd, Haslemere GU27 1NL.

At the Presentation evening, I will talk through my ideas for staging etc and aim to provide an idea of what the audition panel will be looking for whilst (hopefully) answering any questions from the floor. This will be followed by a part read through, probably of Act 1 Sc 5 where we first meet the Matrons all together, and possibly more depending on time available.

The attached Zip Folder contains:

1.  A brief summary of the Characters including the guide as to age as set out in the script. I have been asked to be more specific but believe it is better that anyone interested should interpret this as they wish. In a nutshell, if you think you’d be good for a part or parts, then put your name down accordingly. The panel will be very open minded, has no fixed ideas and wants to be given lots to think about. However, if you are 20 and put your name down for the character who says she is 83, then your interpretation will be deemed to be a little too loose. Incidentally, the four men’s parts have been written so that they can be performed by one person but again, I don’t feel bound by this and will be happy with up to four different performers if they are the right people.

2. A draft Rehearsal Schedule. Please note dates, locations and provisional content.

3. Numbered Audition Pieces for all characters. These will be performed in the order shown and it is imperative that we start promptly at 7:30 pm as there is a great deal to cover and the panel want to see and hear as many people as possible. If you are taking part, please arrive at the Club from 7:00 pm so that you can get settled in and the early auditionees are not unduly disturbed by later arrivals. Please also keep noise to the minimum as the evening progresses.

4. An Audition Form. Please fill this in prior to the evening and it would be very helpful if completed copies could be sent well in advance by email to richard@glinsmanweller.co.uk This will help us have an idea of how much time to allocate to each Piece and rest assured, the contents will not be divulged prior to each reading for the benefit of those who like to play their cards close to their chest.

We have up to 18 parts to fill so look forward to seeing a great many of you there.”
