Haslemere Thespians' next play reading honours the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of our greatest novelists
In Jessica Swale’s adaptation of Jane Austen's subtle and witty novel, Sense and Sensibility, we follow the fortunes of the three Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother as they are forced to leave the family estate in Sussex and move to a modest cottage on the property of a distant relative in Devon. There the two eldest girls experience love and heartbreak that tries the contrasting characters of both. Eminently sensible Elinor pines for quiet, kind-hearted Edward Ferrars, but the impulsive Marianne loses herself in the idea of her hero on horseback, John Willoughby, and for a girl who feasts on poetry and music, what else is there to do in Devon but dream of rescue?
Come and lose yourself in Jane's wonderful world of gentility, playfulness and passion at the Mill on Sunday 3 August at 5.30pm.
